March 27 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm€10
Paula Hewlett – Cancer Care – Monday 27t March 2023 7pm-8pm
Paula was born way up north near Derry and spent a lot of holidays in Donegal.
She has a mobile reflexology practice called “pheet – mobile reflexology” for 14 years near Stansted airport.
In 2010 she started volunteering as a reflexologist at Hummingbird Cancer support group and is now on the board of trustees. The group support cancer patients and their carers with complementary therapies.
Paula trained with David Wayte in cancer and palliative care.
She says the best way to treat a cancer patient is to target how they feel on the day. “The approach is no different to any other client, yes they have cancer, but that doesn’t mean their other health worries or concerns have disappeared. We aren’t there to cure them from cancer, we are there to support them outside of a hospital environment”
She uses her favourite techniques to allow the patient to escape and leave the room feeling that they’ve had an hour where “cancer has not been in charge of their life” She always ends each treatment with her lovely technique which she calls “Embrace” Paula calls it her “pheet hug”
Paula is an experienced Reflexologist who has been practising since 2009 in and around Hertfordshire and Essex. Paula offers treatments in peoples’ homes so they can avoid the stress of travelling to and from appointments.
Twelve years on and she is the charity secretary and the group now has charitable status.
Paula’s approach to reflexology with cancer patients is to make their journey more manageable and “help patients forget about the cancer for the couple of hours” when they visit the group.
The results and feedback are amazing and there is certainly great results and happy clients.
Cancer is one of those areas where very mixed messages abound regarding Reflexology but there is plenty of research to support its use. Paula’s response is that as a Reflexologist we aren’t saying we can cure cancer but we can make life more bearable and there’s always something we can work on that isn’t usually related to the cancer.
