First Aid & CPD during COVID-19
Clearly it is not possible to attend CPD events at present, nor is it possible to attend refresher classes to renew your first aid. The requirements for CPD and First Aid are therefore suspended.
We are aware this could create two classes of members – those with First Aid and those without. To avoid this, and to ensure all members are treated equally, the requirements for CPD and First Aid are suspended for everyone’s next renewal.
Following An Taoiseach’s advice, this crisis is expected to continue into the summer, therefore the CPD changes will apply until September 2021. This means all members renewing between now and August 31st, 2021, do not have to have any CPD or First Aid. Any points earned, up to 100, will be carried forward for when CPD is once again required.
Any members who currently have excess CPD being carried forward will keep these points until they are needed. No stored CPD points will be lost. This means that if you have already renewed for this year and have excess CPD, you will not use the saved CPD at your next renewal, but will carry it forward for the renewal after that. If you have yet to renew, but already have some CPD, those points will be carried forward until you need them, so send in your CPD log sheet as normal, and we will record those points for future use.
We recognise the financial strain not practising is causing members. To help with this, any membership renewed, while you are unable to practice due to COVID-19, will be valid for 15 months. We hope this extra 3 months will more than cover the lockdown period.
This is NOT an extension of your current renewal date. You must still renew on time. However, the next renewal will apply for 15 months instead of the normal 12.
Our appeal to you: Please remember that the IRI is a member-run, not-for-profit, organisation. The committee have a responsibility to run the IRI on the smallest budget possible so as to minimise costs of membership. Our membership fee has not risen for many years as a result. Even though we have introduced additional cost-saving factors, our reserves are limited, and membership renewals are our life-line, we do not have vast reserves of cash to survive without a steady stream of membership renewals.
If everyone stops paying their membership fees the IRI will close. We simply do not have the cash reserves to continue without them.
Just as we are trying our best to support you at this difficult time, we need you to support us. Please keep paying your fees. In the long run, the net cost to you will be the same, as you get an extra-long membership period. However, it will make a huge difference to the IRI because it keeps our essential cash flow. It is now up to you – if you want the IRI to continue, please pay your fees.
These changes are not permanent. The IRI has not abandoned CPD or First Aid requirements for membership. These changes are only in place to help with the COVID-19 crisis. Once the crisis passes, membership requirements will return to normal.
Appeal for help
Can you pay your renewal early? No matter when your renewal is due, if you pay for it now, or before July 31th 2020, we will give you 4 months free membership to help out with the crisis. You will be renewed from your normal renewal date and receive an extra 4 months on that period. In the long run, this won’t cost you anything extra, you will actually save a month’s fees.
Please consider this option carefully. The IRI is doing everything we can to support the members, but now we need the members to support the IRI.
Thank you for your consideration and we welcome your feedback and suggestions.
We wish you health and well-being during this time,
Regards, the IRIL Board
